Last updated: 2:30 pm, 12 February 2019
Nyah Pump Station
Blue green algae warning
Reason: Blue Green Algae
Starting: 6 February 2019
Laboratory testing of water samples indicate that we have elevated Blue Green Algae levels at the Nyah Pump Station, which pumps from the Murray River. Water delivered by the Nyah Pump Station is presently below the Blue Green Algae limit recommended for recreation purposes.
Rural stock and domestic customers will continue to be supplied from the Nyah Pump. We recommend that you maintain three days water supply in tanks on-farm.
Customers are reminded that the raw water being supplied directly to farms through the Northern Mallee Pipeline for stock and domestic purposes is not regarded as being fit for human consumption under any circumstances.
For information on stock related issues customers are referred to the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources on 13 61 86 or visit www.agriculture.vic.gov.au for further advice.
We are continuing to monitor this situation and have activated our Blue Green Algae Management Plan.
Updates will be made to this page, GWMWater's social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) as well as through media outlets which cover the area.
