The project involved successfully upgrading Elmhurst’s water supply to meet drinking water standards by implementing a new off-grid water treatment plant. The stand-alone energy system provides a reliable and low-cost solution to power the site, enabling GWMWater to supply customers with cost-effective drinking water while utilising clean energy and minimising emissions.

The Australian Water Association (AWA) water awards recognise and celebrate excellence in the water sector across Australia. The awards program, which includes state and territory awards, as well as national awards, highlights innovation, leadership, and positive change in the water industry.

AWA Chief Executive Corinne Cheeseman congratulated all the winners and finalists, acknowledging their dedication to shaping a more sustainable and resilient water future.

“These awards recognise not only excellence, but the commitment our sector has to continually improving how we manage, protect and value water. Each winner has demonstrated how innovation and collaboration can deliver lasting impact,” Cheeseman said.

GWMWater Managing Director, Mark Williams, congratulated all staff involved in the project.

“Having our project recognised at the Australian Water Awards is a testament to our staff's unwavering commitment to sustainable water solutions and forward-thinking innovation. This recognition reflects the passion, collaboration, and technical excellence that drives everything we do for the future of our community,” said Mr Williams.

The Australian Water Awards continue to spotlight the people, organisations and ideas that are advancing the sector and delivering real outcomes for communities across the country.
